Florida Democrats and the Obama campaign orchestrated a series of conference calls with reporters and other publicity Tuesday slamming Mitt Romney’s controversial “47 percent” remarks in a Boca Raton fundraiser.

The state Democratic Party issued a statement from party Chairman Rod Smith calling the comments “insulting.”

The Obama for America campaign released a web video of what it called man-on-the-street reactions criticizing Romney.

In a conference call with reporters including a military retiree and a college student who said they both have no income tax liability, U.S. Rep. Kathy Castor of Tampa called the comments “shocking” and said an “overwhelming majority” of the 47 percent of the people in the nation who don’t pay income tax are working families, the elderly, students and people with disabilities.
