Join us in welcoming Chief Judge Belvin Perry, Jr. to UCF as he speaks on his experiences as a judge. He is a distinguished jurist and a respected leader in the Central Florida legal community. He currently serves as the chief judge of the Ninth Judicial Circuit of Florida, which serves Orange and Osceola and reached national fame as the judge for the Casey Anthony Trial.

Judge Perry has served as the court’s chief judge since 1995, with a brief hiatus from 1999 to 2001 when he served as the circuit judge for the Orange County Civil Court. He also previously served as the circuit judge for the Orange County Criminal Court and as an administrative circuit judge and circuit judge in Osceola County.

Judge Perry is the chair of the Florida Innocence Commission, an organization that was established by the state Supreme Court to eliminate or significantly reduce the causes of wrongful convictions. He is also a member of The Florida Bar, the Orange County Bar Association, the State Bar of Texas, and the Trial Court Budget Commission.

Judge Perry received his Bachelor of Sciences, Bachelor of History, and Master of Education degrees from Tuskagee University in Alabama. He then earned his juries doctorate from the Thurgood Marshall School of Law at Texas Southern University.
