UPDATE: Due to the inclement weather, UCF’s 3rd Annual Women’s Suffrage March has been rescheduled for September 10th. A hurricane wouldn’t of stopped the suffragettes and it won’t stop us either. Stay tuned for more details and as always, Keep Moving Forward.
On September 10th the College Democrats at UCF, in partnership with the National Organization for Women at UCF and Voices for Planned Parenthood at UCF, will be celebrating the day in American history that women gained the right to vote with a campus-wide march.
Students will be given the opportunity to listen to several guest speakers who will share with them the impact that a woman’s vote can make. The march will begin after the speeches have concluded.
Confirmed speakers include:
• UCF SGA Vice President Rachel Brill;
• UCF Women’s Studies Program Director Dr. Maria Santana;
• League of Women Voters of Orange County President Ann Hellmuth;
• Planned Parenthood of Greater Orlando President & CEO Jenna Tosh;
• Executive Director of Florida Watch Action Susannah Randolph.
Students will be able to participate in an on-site sign, sash, and T-shirt making activity leading up to the march.
The Votes for Women March and Day of Action will take place in front of the UCF Student Union on Monday, August 27 from 12pm to 2pm. All are encouraged to attend and to wear white to symbolize the Women’s Suffrage Movement.
Voting is a non-partisan issue that has remained important to the College Democrats at UCF, National Organization for Women at UCF, and Voices for Planned Parenthood at UCF. This election will be determined largely by the female vote, and like we have always said—when women vote, Florida wins.
