September 11th, 2012 our wonderful county was accosted with several disgraceful actions by our Mayor, Teresa Jacobs, and the County Commission. On that day, the County Commission decided that they would ignore the voice of over 50,000 voters and bow to the wishes of a few special interest groups. Not only did the Commission ignore the signed petitions, Vice Mayor Thompson was ignoring the public speakers in chambers, by texting with a lobbyist from Disney. All told, Vice Mayor Thompson sent and received 139

text messages during the debate for Earned Sick Time. That is an average of a message sent every 90 seconds!

On top of texting during one of this county’s most important debates in years, Vice Mayor Thompson then had the gall to delete the text messages, which are widely considered public record.

Also this Tuesday, and EQUALLY as important, The county commissioners will be voting on the “new language” they have chosen for the Earned sick time ballot measure we worked so hard to win.

With this in mind, we urge you to come to the Orange County Administration Center downtown, located at 201 S. Rosalind, on October the 2nd at 9am. To show that we will not have our voice drowned out by special interests, we have planned some theatrical fun involving text messaging around our theme of ‘Don’t Delete Democracy.’ We will be wearing white on this occasion to show our unity for this matter.

Stop the County Commissioners from DELETING Democracy
