The National Boricua Human Rights Network – Orlando Chapter invites the community to take part in a social/literary gathering dedicated to the Grito de Lares which is celebrated every year in Puerto Rico on September 23rd. El Grito de Lares (The Cry of Lares)—also referred to as the Lares uprising, the Lares revolt, Lares rebellion or even Lares Revolution—was the first major revolt against Spanish rule and call for independence in Puerto Rico. The short-lived revolt was planned by Ramón Emeterio Betances and Segundo Ruiz Belvis. It began on September 23, 1868 in the town of Lares, Puerto Rico.

Se conoce popularmente como El Grito de Lares a la revolución puertorriqueña por su independencia de España. Llvada a cabo el 23 de septiembre de 1868 en el siglo XIX. En America Latina se utilizo la expresión de “Grito” como sinónimo de declaración de independencia. Por exemplo, El Grito de Dolores (México 1810) el Grito de Ipiranga (Brazil, 1822) y el Grito de Yara (Cuba, 1868).
