Orange County Democrats Applaud Local Democratic Congressional Representatives as They Swear In Today
Congresswomen Stephanie Murphy (CD-7), Val Demings (CD-10), and Congressman Darren Soto (CD-9) start their first terms in Congress today

Orlando, FL- As the Orange County local Congressional delegation is sworn in today to begin their public service in Washington, DC, the Orange County Democratic Party would like to congratulate Congresswomen Stephanie Murphy (CD-7), Val Demings (CD-10), and Congressman Darren Soto (CD-9) as they work to improve the lives of the American people and Central Florida through effective government.

Congresswoman Stephanie Murphy, a local Rollins College business professor and former US Department of Defense analyst, is the first Vietnamese-American Congresswoman in our nation’s history and Congressman Darren Soto, former State Senator and local attorney, is the first Puerto Rican congressman from the state of Florida. Congresswoman Val Demings, former City of Orlando Police Chief, was recently appointed into leadership as an assistant whip for the Congressional Democrats.

“There is no question that many challenges lie ahead, but I will work hard everyday to make sure the Democratic party continues to promote policies that protect working families,” Demings said.

Orange County Democratic Party Chairman Wes Hodge said, “We look forward to working with our elected representatives as they continue work for effective government for all American people. In areas where we find common ground for the betterment of the people of Central Florida, we look forward to the bipartisan work and effort that our Congresswomen and men will pursue to strengthen our local economy and better the future for our working families and communities. In areas where the Trump administration and the Republicans in the House and Senate seek to pursue racist, sexist, xenophobic, anti-environment policies, we will work to vigorously oppose them. We stand ready to fight in the years to come to protect the rights of all Americans.”
