Some of Florida’s biggest and most influential businesses — including Walt Disney World andDarden Restaurants — on Monday threw their weight behind long-stalled legislation to prohibit discrimination against gay, bisexual and transgender Floridians.
The businesses, nearly a dozen so far that have united under an umbrella group called the Florida Business Coalition for a Competitive Workplace, said such a law would help Florida companies better compete for workplace talent against employers in other states and countries that have enacted similar anti-discrimination policies.
“The link between strong anti-discrimination laws and the ability to draw the best and brightest is the reason that 84 percent of the nation’s largest companies have adopted comprehensive anti-discrimination policies that include sexual orientation and gender identity,” the companies said in a joint statement.
