Newly-elected Orange County Tax Collector Scott Randolph has resigned from his other political leadership post: local Democratic party chairman.
Since winning his elected seat last fall, Randolph has been looking to remove his party chief hat.
Randolph said that he worked with local teacher Sean Ashby — who recently dropped out of his District 4 county commission race — to set up a possible transition plan.
Randolph plans to back Ashby to take over the party when internal elections are held within the next couple weeks, he said.
In an early-morning email, Ashby said: “I want to build on the success of the 2012 elections for the local party, make sure we get quality people elected to the county commission, local democrats re-elected to the legislature, and make sure [Gov.] Rick Scott does not serve four more years in Tallahassee.”
