Former Gov. Charlie Crist endorsed Democratic House candidate Amanda Murphy during a campaign rally at a Pasco community center Thursday morning.

Murphy is running for the House District 36 seat vacated by former Rep. Mike Fasano, a Republican with wide bipartisan appeal.

“It’s all about Amanda, and in 12 days she will be elected as state representative,” Crist said to applause from 60 or so supporters at the Jasmine Lakes community center. “In 12 days we will have someone return to Tallahassee who cares about people first, just like Mike Fasano did and still does.

“In 12 days we will continue to have a state representative who understands how important people are, how important the environment is, that ethics matter and that it’s important to have a great educational system for all of our children,” he added.

With less that two weeks until the Oct. 15 election, both candidates are stepping up efforts to reach voters and appealing to party leaders for support. Crist’s endorsement comes a day after U.S. Sen Marco Rubio announced his support for Murphy’s opponent, Republican Bill Gunter.

Recent telephone polling shows the candidates running about even.
