That’s a criticism about Florida Democrats lobbed not by Republicans but by Sunshine State Democratic strategist Steve Schale, a comment about his own party, broadcast on his Facebook page.

Schale led President Barack Obama’s campaign in the state four years ago and was a chief strategist again this year. And even after Democrats chalked up across-the-board gains in Florida in the November election, an upbeat Schale posted the tongue-in-cheek reminder as Democrats plot to keep their winning streak alive.

The Florida Democratic Party, progressives, unions and civil rights organizations helped Democrats shatter supermajorities in both the state House and Senate, pick up four congressional seats and kill eight constitutional proposals put on the ballot by the GOP-controlled legislature.

Now, they’re faced with how to maintain that momentum. And history is not on their side, Schale cautioned.

“After 2008, there was this huge enthusiasm. And 2010 was a buzz saw. It was the worst year for Democrats in over a century,” Schale said.
