Today I invite you to join me on a journey: a quest for straight talk on the campaign trail.

We’re going to hit a few bumps in the road along the way — including a conversation so nonsensical it made the Mad Hatter seem lucid.

But I’ll also give you some guidance to help deal with the masses of malarkey you’ll face this election season.

This journey started with a short walk to my mailbox. There I found a campaign mailer from aspiring legislator Bob Brooks.

I opened it and liked what I saw.

Specifically, I liked Brooks’ declaration: “It’s time Tallahassee worked for us for a change.”

“Amen!” I thought.

So I called Brooks to tell him how much I agreed — the Legislature definitely isn’t working for us.

That’s when Brooks stopped me.

“Well, I didn’t say that,” he said.

Um … what? Yeah, you did. It says so right here, beneath a giant picture of you — that you think Tallahassee needs to work for us “for a change.”

So obviously you don’t think Tallahassee is working for us now … right?

“No,” he said. “Those are your words.”
