Geraldine Thompson stood in the center of the Wells Built Museum of African-American History and Culture in downtown Orlando, watching a screen with results from the various races across Central Florida.
In a race that featured an ethics complaint and attack mailers against her depicting Martin Luther King, Jr., Thompson pulled away from Victoria Siplin early, but the state representative waited until she saw all 92 precincts results were in until she accepted victory.
And moment is was official, the crowd began cheering and shouting “Thompson! Thompson! Thompson”
“I’m feeling wonderful,” Thompson said. “This is a sweet, sweet moment.”
