As she does on most holidays, Orange County Mayor Teresa Jacobs wished local workers a happy Labor Day today.
The mayor looks forward to “another season filled with productivity and many proud accomplishments.”
That’s not exactly what a labor-backed group she’s at odds with is looking for, though. Citizens for a Greater Orange County is pushing a ballot measure that would provide sick pay to many workers who don’t get it, and the group collected more than 50,000 petition signatures to get it in front of voters on Nov. 6.
But Jacobs is backing a last-minute counter proposal for that same ballot which would essentially snuff out the sick time measure, and possibly other local worker protections. The background on that is here.
