Challenger Euri Cerrud landed an endorsement from the Orlando Regional Realtor Association in his race against Orange County Commissioner Jennifer Thompson.

“He is an attorney and does a lot of real estate law,” said Frankie Elliot, the group’s government affairs chief. “The screening committee really liked him a lot. They liked Jennifer as well, but thought Euri was more familiar with the issues affecting the real estate market.”

Cerrud has also received backing from the county’s firefighter union and the AFL-CIO Central Florida Labor Council.

Cerrud and fellow political newcomer Maribel Gomez Cordero are taking on Thompson in an Aug. 26 primary. If no candidate gets more than 50 percent of the vote, the top two face off on Nov. 4.

Thompson said she wasn’t surprised by the real estate community backing Cerrud, since she didn’t get their endorsement the last time she ran. Thompson has a number of endorsements, including backing from the Central Florida Hotel and Lodging Association and Business Force.

“He is an attorney and does a lot of real estate law,” said Frankie Elliot, the group’s government affairs chief. “The screening committee really liked him a lot. They liked Jennifer as well, but thought Euri was more familiar with the issues affecting the real estate market.”
