The Florida Chamber of Commerce, which has been paying for television ads promoting Longwood Republican Rep. Scott Plakon in House District 30, is now sending mailers promoting the GOP candidate in a neighboring House race, too.
The chamber mailers are helping Republican Marco Pena, who is running against Democrat Joe Saunders in House District 49, a Democratic-leaning seat in east Orange County. The piece touts Pena’s support for standard chamber priorities, such as eliminating regulations and cutting spending and taxes. And, in a district that includes the University of Central Florida, it twice highlights Pena’s support for the Bright Futures scholarship program.
The mailer was paid for by one of the chamber’s several political groups: The Florida Chamber of Commerce Alliance. Its biggest contributors include Walt Disney World, U.S. Sugar Corp. and private-prisons operator The Geo Group.
