Sen. Nan Rich, the only declared Democratic candidate for governor, laced into Gov. Rick Scott and Republicans Thursday morning in remarks to the Florida delegation breakfast at the Democratic National Convention. Rich said the state has been badly served by the last three GOP governors. Noting that the GOP has argued against President Barack Obama by asking Americans if they’re better off than they are four years ago, “they forget to ask Floridians if we’re better off than we were 14 years ago.” Rich slammed Scott for refusing to take federal stimulus funds, an attempt to pass legislation that would have allowed parents to transfer schools to private corporations and the voter purge aimed at removing suspected noncitizens from the rolls. “Rick Scott may be able to live with his conscience and the lies that he spun to justify voter suppression, but we can’t and we won’t,” she said.
